FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your first session begins with a conversation about your goals, lifestyle, training routine, and any problem areas. I'll ask about your medical history and current activity levels to make sure the treatment is safe and effective for you.
From there, we'll move into the treatment itself. Depending on what you need, this might involve sports massage, deep tissue work, or a combination of techniques. I'll check in with you throughout to make sure the pressure is comfortable and you're getting the results you want.
Appointments are private and relaxed – there's no rush, and you'll have my full attention throughout.
Sports massage can be intense, particularly if we're working on areas of chronic tension or injury. You might feel some discomfort during treatment, but it should never be unbearable. I'll always check in with you about pressure levels, and you can ask me to adjust at any time.
Deep tissue work can sometimes leave you feeling a bit tender afterwards – similar to how you might feel after a tough workout. This usually passes within 24-48 hours, and many clients find that the long-term benefits far outweigh any temporary discomfort.
It depends on your goals and activity levels. Here's a general guide:
• Regular athletes and runners: Every 2-4 weeks for maintenance and injury prevention
• Training for an event: Weekly sessions during peak training, with pre-event and post-event treatments
• Recovering from injury: Initially weekly, then spacing out as you improve
• General maintenance: Monthly sessions to keep on top of tension and maintain flexibility
We can discuss the best schedule for you during your first appointment, and adjust as your needs change.
Sports massage is more targeted and intense, focusing on specific muscle groups, improving performance, and preventing or treating injury. It's designed for active people and uses deeper pressure and more dynamic techniques.
Swedish massage is gentler and more relaxing, using long, flowing strokes to reduce overall tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. It's perfect for stress relief and general wellbeing.
That said, many clients benefit from a combination of both approaches depending on what they need at the time.
Absolutely not! While I work with athletes and runners, sports massage is beneficial for anyone with an active lifestyle – whether that's going to the gym, playing with your kids, walking the dog, or working a physically demanding job.
If you experience muscle tension, restricted movement, or aches and pains from day-to-day activities, sports massage can help.
Wear whatever you're comfortable in. Most treatments are done in underwear or sports clothing (shorts and a sports bra for women, shorts for men), but I'll always work around your comfort levels. The most important thing is that I can access the areas we need to work on.
Yes, but it depends on the injury. Sports massage can support recovery by improving circulation, reducing scar tissue, breaking down adhesions, and maintaining flexibility in surrounding muscles.
However, if you're currently injured, it's important to get clearance from your GP or healthcare practitioner before booking. I'm happy to work alongside other healthcare professionals to support your recovery.
